Shareholder Nominated Charitable Giving Scheme
Hunter Hall International Limited (HHL) has a policy of donating 5% of its pre-tax profits to charitable purposes and activities that support social or environmental causes. Since listing on the ASX in 2001, Hunter Hall International through the Shareholder Nominated Charitable Donations Scheme has donated a total of over $6.4 million. Major recipients of charitable donations include Amnesty International, the Asian Rhino Project, Australian Cancer Research Foundation, Australian Conservation Foundation, Australian Orangutan Project, Bush Heritage, Children's Medical Research Institute, Free the Bears Fund Inc., Medecins Sans Frontieres, Save Foundation of Australia and Youth Off The Streets.
Donations are shareholder driven and each HHL shareholder is invited to nominate a charity for their proportion of the annual donation from a list compiled by the Shareholder Nominated Charitable Donations Scheme Committee, initially in consultation with Givewell.
Shareholders with up to 50,000 shares make one nomination from a list of registered Australian charities and shareholders with 50,000 shares or more may choose up to three Australian registered charities of their choice.

Givewell
Givewell was formed in 1997 to play a key role in fostering a better culture of giving in Australia. They do this by conducting research on charities and generating ideas on better ways to give. They also believe that more informed and generous giving will lead to a more accountable, efficient and effective charitable sector.
Their 3 key strategies are to:
- specialise in gathering information about charities, foundations and community attitudes to giving;
- ensure that professional advice on donations and bequests becomes a normal part of financial, tax and estate planning services; and to
- help companies and grantmakers implement well constructed giving programs as part of their service to the community.
Their fundamental belief is that people would like to make more of a difference. They provide ideas and information on how this can be achieved, so that making a difference is made easy.
Givewell (Reg No: U410 0242) is the registered business name of Walsh Consultants Pty Limited (ABN: 53 082 145 775).
