Hunter Hall Investment Management is Australia’s largest dedicated ethical investment manager. We aim to create wealth for investors over time through careful and responsible investment in undervalued companies.
Formed in 1993, Hunter Hall is a funds management business built on superior long term investment performance with an ethical investment overlay. Hunter Hall's objective is to provide investors with superior returns over the medium to long term by investing in high quality stocks that are perceived to be undervalued. These are often undiscovered, under researched and out of favour companies.Investment Strategy
Hunter Hall implements the investment strategy of the Funds through a value investment methodology based on the fundamental analysis of individual stocks. There are two major components of the value investment methodology:
This methodology is based on the view that:
Hunter Hall is committed to the concept of responsible investing and applies an Ethical Investment Policy to all products.
The Ethical Investment Policy of the Value Growth Trust, Global Equities Trust and Australian Value Trust involves applying a negative screen to potential investments which seeks to avoid investment in companies that derive operating revenues from direct and material business involvement in the manufacture or sale of weapons and weapons components, tobacco manufacture, gambling outlets or systems, intensive animal farming, animal testing for cosmetics, activities that give rise to human rights violations, unremediated destruction of the environment, uranium mining and nuclear reactors and fossil fuels.
In October 2007 Hunter Hall launched its first positively screened investment fund, the Hunter Hall Global Deep Green Trust (GDG), which, in addition to applying the screen above, will focus investment in enterprises which are deemed to make a positive impact on the wellbeing of people, animals and the environment. Furthermore, the GDG will not invest in any company domiciled in any country involved in commercial whaling.
Hunter Hall is also committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and participate in a range of sustainability-related activities. Further information can be found in our Sustainability Report.
Hunter Hall International Limited (HHL), our parent company which is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), has a policy of donating 5% of its pre-tax profits to charitable purposes and activities that support social or environmental causes. Charities must be Australian registered charities with DGR (Item 1) endorsement. It is important to note that the donations do not come out of the unitholder accounts. Since listing on the ASX in 2001, HHL through the Shareholder Nominated Charitable Giving Scheme has donated over $9.2 million.
